The challenge of "luminaries"

mmm....
not really clear why you insist that it is hybrid unconferencing 'but  
calling it Open space".

I am doing open space (in a relatively pure form) and some times  
adding other forms to the edges - this would be other large scale  
participatory things that help bring group cohesion and understanding  
- like spectorgrams or fishbowls - these are shared experience times  
that go deeper then 'morning and evening news'.   There is also this  
fun thing called Speed Geeking that works really well for geeks  
sharing stuff.

  I don't call All that stuff "OPEN SPACE" I call the open space  
method open space and the other method's what they are called. The  
majority of the time is spent in open space.

  Often we also have an 'on ramp' afternoon to get newbies etc to get  
up to speed on the latest technologies and standards.
