Open space with youth 9 - 16?

Hi Brett,

What an exciting project! Does it have a name?

At the 2005 and 2008 Girl Scout National Conventions, girls aged 14-18
were part of intergenerational Open Space events. At the 2008
Convention, girls reported having the experience of being fully
listened to in big OST breakouts. In the Girl Scout Movement, the
adults are hungry to hear from the girls and the girls always seem to
be surprised about that.

Personally, I'm a big fan of intergenerational dialogue. I find that
when young people are included in the conversation, adults work harder
to listen and understand.

I love the possibility that the young people want to re-imagine the
media. You might want to talk with Peggy Holman who has been holding
the space for Journalism That Matters for many years.

Warm wishes from another warm night in Phoenix,

Christine

Does any one have any info about using open space with young people
ages 9 - 16? Are there any significant opportunities and factors to
consider in design?

We are working on convening open spaces in communities around the US
for youth to explore their views, issues, ideal futures, and action
dreams around the theme of media in their communities and in the whole
world.

We are very excited, as our initial inquiries with small groups of
young people say they are very aware of the perversity in the US media
all around them and specifically targeting them. They have many ideas,
and need the chance to re-imagine media.

We really look forward to their new ideas for youth generated media
systems and formats, and the change that will happen in our media
system as a result.

Thank you

Best regards,
Brett
