Gel Conference Challenge on Listening

1) I would guess this may be of interest to some on this list...

The Gel conference in NYC is put out a challenge on the theme of "listening". Solutions should 
"create 
some new experience that improves listening - in any context, big or small".

It is due Oct 27th.

2) I am planning on putting up a solution. I would hope to make my small team part of an open 
dialogue on the topic and to vet some of our ideas with the listening pros on this list. 

To start off I would like to ask you all the obvious question:

Why do we need a solution to listening? What is the problem?
