Bruce Lundeen is a friend in Harrisonburg VA - and it was he who got the
good mayor of that city started down the Open Space pathway. Not to be
content, he is now in the process of infecting the school system. Seems to
be working as you can see from the following.

Harrison-
Check out the e-mail form Assistant Principle Todd Lynn from the Luray High
School in Page County. Todd attended the June 23rd "Breaking Barriers" OST.
Fertile ground for a follow-up that I would like to see happen in September.

Subject: Additional Comments
Good afternoon Bruce,
I am just getting some time to go through the materials from the leadership
retreat. It was an amazing time with one of the showcases being the OST
"burning issues" that Cara helped facilitate. In addition to Cara's
comments I would add that it gave the students a chance to talk about the
issues they wanted to talk about. To quote several of them based on the
survey we had them complete "it gave us a voice that was heard". It was
also neat to watch them continue the conversations after we wrapped things
up. It didn't just end because we had called time.
As Cara mentioned one of the issues that came up was global warming. The
conversation spilled over to the next day with an action planned that
incorporated both school pride as well as being a "greener" school with
recycling programs and others.
Needless to say I think the foundation work is laid with the students to
continue working on environmental issues and leadership develop. The entire
event was very eye opening for the students as well as the staff members
that attended. Each session had its merits and was appreciated by the kids.
When the only negative is the kids wanted to stay longer and do more
sessions, leads me to believe we are on to something.
Thank you for help and continued support to PCPS. I look forward to working
with you more in the very near future.
Todd
