[OSLIST] My first OS

Hi Bui,

Congrats! Lisa proposed an excellent plan. My first OS was also with a small
group of volunteers - 5 people! I wasn't part of the group though, so my
role was clearly one of facilitation only. I also had 3 hours, did 3 rounds
of 40 minutes like Lisa suggested. The agenda building took a good 15
minutes, if not a bit more. They asked if they could discuss all of them
together, and I suggested that they try the OS way, with the law of 2 feet
and all, at least for the first round. They accepted, and continued doing so
for all the rounds. I also did some individual action planning at the end.
They were pretty impressed with the results! I like Lisa's proposal to keep
20 min to reopen about action.

Good luck, have fun and tell us about it after!

Hi everyone,

It looks like I finally will be facilitating my first ever OS a week and
a half from now. It is for a recently formed (actually still forming)
volunteer group I'm a member of and we want to meet to sort out the
direction we want to go in. Since we're all volunteers, time is limited
and we've only been able to set aside 3 hours. Obviously we want to
cover as many issues as possible, so the question is how much time to
schedule for each session. With this group I don't think I need to spend
too much time in the opening explaining the process and since we are
very small (10 or less), I don't expect the agenda creation to take long
either.

The group would like to leave with some clear action plans but I'm not
sure how to do that with the limited time we've got. I like people
having time to sleep on things, but that obviously won't happen unless
we all manage to have a 5 minute nap. I have thought of ways to leave
the action planning for later, but I haven't found a good way to do that
either. Either it will be too long before we meet again, or we have to
do it electronically.
I should mention that since I am an integral member of the group the
others don't want me to stay completely out of the discussions. I think
I have found a way to deal with this. I will just have to see what
happens. While I don't expect us to see the full potential of OST with
time we've got, I am hoping the group will see it's usefulness for other
larger and public events.

So if anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with the time
challenges, I would be forever grateful.

Thanks,

Bui Petersen
