just wondering

I think this rings true for me -- what we seem to 
lack in the 'free market' is SPIRIT....
some ever-present, yet tough-to-define sense of 
being connected with each other and to live within this worldview.
Free market capitalism - with its infamous 
'trickle-down' effect - seems to have a built-in 
drive towards the surival of the fittest and leave the crumbs for the rest..
 From my dim dark memory of Adam Smith and the 
'Invisible Hand' theory, his development of the 
'laissez-faire' principle emerged within a 
worldview where 'spirit' (in those days, 'God') 
was operating within the community - to provide a container of connection...
