FW: The challenge of "luminaries"

A great discussion and a continuing and evolving issue:

One look: ensure that all the participants are seen as "luminaries" in
the invitation in relation to the task at hand. The theme plays a
critical function here in focusing a conversation were "illumination"
from leadership needs to emerge from throughout the system.

If this is a "conference" not a OS focused on engaging a system in its
change then have the luminaries speak before or after the space is open.
If they have to be there.

If the luminary cannot "live" in Open Space, in self-organizing and
emergent process then the "light" is from a previous worldview - and
thus limited in a complex self-organizing world.

I've had people complain after an OST that the discussions were not
"evidence based" and up to their scientific standards. (Others thought
they were fine.) Some folk are not ready to let go of what they
perceive as control (best practice).

Some folks do see the "technology" of OST (circle, walking, bells, etc)
as fitting "green culture". (Granola and narcissism). Ken Wilber is
right in calling it "mean green" because there has been a lot of putting
down of those who are at different places in their journey. Many
younger folks, IT folks and others, have experienced substantial
individual openness through the web. There has been a shift from
"green" collective perspectives towards more individual openness but
collaboration. I can see why Kaliya, your organization would react the
way its does and that a journey of learning was necessary to "accept"
the value of a circle. It is also true that your presence, style,
openness to circles and beyond also enables the learning journey or not.

That's why I played with the Open Space fishbowl - using a somewhat
different technology but the same principles and law. Being intentional
(aware) about both the meeting "technology" you are using and the
principles and law allow for the journey to new perceptions of opening
space.
