Working with visual artists at an Open Space

yes yes josef, this is how it could be. the artist showing/inviting
people how to see and sketch things out in these other ways, the same
as the facilitator inviting/showing them how to *move* in new ways.
all good. i can well imagine it happening both ways, though. the
reason i mention this 'default of brilliant storyteller...' is that
that is, with one exception, the only way i've ever seen meeting
organizers have artists involved... to capture a visual record
themselves, not to help others capture that record for themselves. so
yes, it can happen both ways, and i do have a preference for this way
you're suggesting... what i would call showing/inviting how to
capture, rather than capturing directly.

and yes, pat... many modes. one of the most memorable osonos events
for me was when lisa kimball and anne stadler went out and bought a
pile of toobers and zots... foam tubes and connectors and a bunch of
us made silly shapes. i made a crazy hat contraption and wore it all
day on day two. at the end of the day, i saw anne at the elevator and
thanked her for her gift to us. i explained that i'd had a great day
and suggested that now i might have to wear this magic hat everyday.
anne's response was brilliant and immediate: "it might be the person
underneath the hat."

Dear Wendy, Peggy, and all,
Since about 2002, I have noticed what Wendy is referring to as =91new
competencies=92 emerging not only in OST meetings, but in all kinds of
gatherings. There appears to be a new level of consciousness. One of
these competencies is the way emergent groups are happening in OST
meetings such as at the OSONOS in Moscow that Wendy referred to. I had
one of the most powerful moments for me, in an emergent group that
included Wendy that I will cherish for a lifetime. =20
=20
I have also noticed =91new competencies=92 in participants in our other
work, including in the workshops that we lead. Workshops that required
two days to get through a few years ago, now lead to such deep and
conscious discussions, that the same workshops are taking 3-4 days and
the participants feel that this is not long enough. I have been
witnessing that another new competency appears to be =91deep =
listening=92.

Dear Peggy and all,
What a rich conversation! What wonderful questions to sit with!
What is coming up for me, Peggy, is that it is not a new technology that
we are waiting to see emerge, but rather that we are witnessing the
growing pains of a new competency in open space. I was blessed to
experience rich butterfly behaviour in Moscow at OSonOS XIV. Pairings
and small groups sprang up, unposted, all about the space, over all
three days. These groups honoured the principles and the law of OS and
flourished in it. There were very personal, intimate conversations that
occurred there=97deep and lasting relationships formed. And each person =
I
witnessed, had the openness, the energy, and the courage to trust in
Spirit and in the practice of deep invitation. Even in the most delicate
of conversations, a newcomer was welcomed in as the right person at the
right time. I suggest this is the edge of a new competence emerging in
OS events=97that OST, when embodied fully, can bring as rich rewards to
our relationships as it has to our innovations in organizations=97with =
no
alteration in the technology. I sense that the private meetings, the
limited invitations, are a relic of our pre-OS consciousness that we are
ever more quickly transcending. That the urge to non-convene? a group
of one, two or more people will grow. That the participants=92 trust in
the field to generate the precise invitation required will grow. The
right people, the right time, whatever happens, be prepared. I suggest
that as participants=92 capacity to sense the energy of the field and to
work with it grows, the need to exert external controls will dissipate.=20
Perhaps one day, we won=92t even see topics posted=97just a crowd of
butterflies and bumblebees swirling in mandelbrotish ecstasy! Wink
wink. <big grin>
Cheers and love,
Wendy
