Chris Corrigan wrote, “Sticking to the manual is a good idea…I follow
pretty much the same basic script as I did the first time I did it, and
that was cribbed out of the old user's guide…So go whole hog with your
opening, don't modify it from the basic script too much, but mostly BE
the enthusiasm you FEEL for the process.”

What Chris said is what I always tell those who want to try
facilitation; go by the BOOK.

I was given the “original” (wonderful green covered) User’s Guide just
days before a panicked Agency sent me off to "save them”. The person
who gave me the User’s Guide asked me the next day if I had read it. My
reply was, “No, it SPOKE to me.” I have NEVER encountered any other
book that did so. Simple and elegant!

Finally, Chris’s last point (be and feel) is provided in Harrison’s
User’s Guide as 1. Show up 2. Be present. 3. Tell the truth and
4. Let it go. Once you get the significance (and difficulty) of doing
those four things, you are home free!
