All of the dictionaries I looked in have it pronounced as "pan-JEE-ah". Not
knowing Greek, ancient or modern, I am curious as to the source of the
pronunciation to which you refer.

BTW, "pangaea" (pan- guy-a-ah) is the Greek word for our Earth, before
