I agree with you on this.   But I do see many people taking a current (or 
past) scientific concept as an article of faith.   And as you pointed out, that 
leads to fruitless arguments.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of this going on in the world today . 
. . and in maybe every time.   I wish it were not so.
