[OSList] funny coding in between words on postings?

Hi Romy!

The problem seems to be between the local computers of the individuals on this list. There are different ways of dealing with formatting of text. Your post goes to their computer and when their computer does not understand the way your computer has coded the formatting commands, you get this gobbledygook.

A solution would be to send your messages without any formatting – in Outlook, you can select Format Text on the ribbon and then in the Format group choose “Plain text”. That will strip your message of all things nice like special fonts, colors, bold or italics, bulleted paragraphs etc. So if you are willing to pay that price, the problem will probably be solved.

Hope you are well!

Koos

Ooooo dunno why the postings (including mine just now) come out with all the lovely coding in between words? Perhaps it’s important not to put formatting when writing a post? Or is there a way of sorting it without the coding? Can anyone let me know? Many thanks

Romy

In the Tessitura Community, Don Youngberg and Meredith Woolard have done =
some nice work doing OS over Zoom by itself and using Zoom Break Out Room=
s, and a simple google sheet for marketplace and News Room.

Erica Marx and the folks of the Applied Improvisation Network (AIN) are a=
lso doing some lovely Open Space again over Zoom again using a google she=
et for marketplace.

Most of these google sheet & Zoom Room approaches are scaling to up to ab=
out 100 folks. (8-10 break out rooms at most per time slot.)

Through attending a number of these gatherings, It seems to take several =
folks to run a gatherings of more than a few dozen or so.=C2=A0=C2=A0I=E2=

Clearly QiQoChat is the tool we will be using for the Annual Peace and Hi=

my understanding that Phelim & the Improbable team use QiQoChat for Devo=

I=E2=80=99ve also discovered several other platforms that have promise fo=

Related to this topic of bringing Open Space online.=C2=A0=C2=A0I=E2=80=99=

Happy New Year from Belgium!
I would love to take part in this conversation. I've been working mainly
with Zoom+google docs and with Qiqo chat. A year ago I couldn't imagine an
open space online, now I'm still surprised how effective it can be. Happy
to share and to explore further with you.

Best wishes,

I would like to reply on James=E2=80=99 comment about access and =
privilege in an online world. I experience and observe that there are =
still enough problems and inequalities to participate for many people:

First of all access to a device (computer, smart phone). Many have smart =
phones but not all have a computer to use all possibilities of =
interacting like working in break-out sessions together on Google doc or =
virtual collaboration tools.=20
Second a strong and stable bandwidth. This depends on the region/country =
you live in but also on your personal budget.
Third to be able to fully connect with others you need also a camera =
that everybody can see you too, which definitely adds on to the personal =
connection.=20
Forth is connected with the 3rd point because a camera allows to sneak =
into =E2=80=9Cyour home=E2=80=9D and shows a lot about your personal =
living standard and enables/hinders you to concentrate on the =
participation (e.g. if family members are in the same room, noise from =
the neighbourhood/street etc.). Even offices can be difficult =
surroundings if you share the same room with several colleagues.
Fifth, to participate from home is for many people a challenge because =
they have children or other family members to care for and get =
interrupted.

Some of the above mentioned points might be mitigated easily. For =
instance we don=E2=80=99t have to show where we are and can choose in =
some video tools the background. Some limitations like local bandwidth =
is less in your control.

Regarding the background of our personal video, I prefer to see the =
=E2=80=9Creality=E2=80=9D people are seated and understand a bit better =
the challenges around them. I smile if a toddler wants to be on the lap =
of the daddy, or a colleague appears unknowingly on the screen, or a cat =
hijacks the keyboard. It gives me a feeling that we are all humans and =
not only nice and neat little computer screen windows.=20

How is your experience regarding access and privilege?

Kind regards from sunny Vienna,
Judith

How wonderful to read your note and to everyone who responded. We are
living into an amazing learning journey together aren't we!

As part of the Peace and High Performance Open Space gathering happening
January 22-24, 2021 (10 am to 3 pm EST), there will certainly be
opportunities to invite sharing and co-creative learning on the topic you
mention Romy. The cost for the three days is minimal $25. The spirit of the
gathering which will include reflections from Harrison on Saturday and
Sunday morning is very much in the spirit of shared learning as we continue
to open more and more virtual space together. We will be using a
combination of Zoom, QiQo (much gratitude always to trailblazing Lucas
Cioffi) and Google doc, inspired by Flourishing Futures and OSI US. Our
hope is that it will also provide a space to discuss other ways and means
of opening space ~ simply, in the spirit of a "less is more".

Karen Davis has been hosting this gathering with Harrison for over 20
years. It's an opportunity for people new to Open Space to experience and
even practice facilitation of open space. For others more familiar, an
opportunity to deepen our practice with others, including virtual. What
I've always found most interesting are the diverse communities that we
attracted in New York, people who are passionately engaged in various
causes, in transformation and change. This year will be no different.

All are warmly welcome.

Below the invite, the important THEME that is bringing us together in these
times, and a link for all who are interested:

*OPEN SPACE TECHNOLOGY*

*=E2=80=9CPEACE & HIGH PERFORMANCE=E2=80=9D*

*Jan 22- 24, 2021*

*These urgent times need us everywhere, all of us, head and heart.*

*Together, we must challenge ourselves to invite broadly,*

*to engage and inspire each other to action.*

*=E2=80=9CHow do we engage 8 billion people in meaningful conversation?=E2=
=80=9D*

*Explore pathways and discoveries with other global explorers.*

Please feel free to invite others!

naturally welcome =F0=9F=98=8A:

We hold a zoom on =E2=80=9CHow do we open space most brilliantly in zoom =
times=E2=80=9D (or something similar)
the focus being on what is needed and what works in holding space for =
effective conversations, using the variety of platforms that folks have =
experience of blending with Open Space eg. Zoom, Qiqochat, Miro, =
GoogleDocs etc etc.
we experience as many of the platforms as poss=E2=80=99 during our =
gathering
we hold relatively brief sessions, knowing that we can continue together =
or in separate groups afterwards
Once we have shared our collective wisdom on some of what works in a =
practical and meaningful way=E2=80=A6. we can join in the virtual Open =
Space that Suzanne, Harrison and JuanLuis are holding on Jan 22nd - 24th =
- focusing on the beautiful question of =E2=80=9CHow do we engage 8 =
billion people in meaningful conversation?=E2=80=9D=20

How does that sound?=20

for date: how about Monday 18th Jan (a week today)? ie. ahead of the =
virtual OS for 8 billion people, the following weekend.
for time (to include Pacific Coast time - to Istanbul time): how about =
9am (Pacific Time) =3D 5pm (UK time) =3D 8pm (Istanbul time)
we hold a zoom gathering in Open Space - of course !!=20
timetable:
9.00 (10) Welcome, OS Theme =E2=80=9CHow do we open space most =
brilliantly in zoom times=E2=80=9D, & roadmap of our time=20
including time for hello waves across the zoomiverse !=E2=80=A6. while =
everyone joins
9.10 (10) Explanation of how the Open Space in Zoom Time will work =
technically =E2=80=A6. on Zoom, Qiqochat etc.=20
Who might create a technical blending for our gathering, to give us an =
experience of as many ways of connecting brilliantly, using a variety of =
platforms, as possible? Chris? Peggy? Michael? Someone else?
to include how the Law of Two Feet works virtually.
And who might be able to send a zoom invitation=E2=80=A6. and post it on =
the OSLIST?
9.20 (30) Opening Circle (enough time?). Who would like to facilitate =
this, using which platform?
9.50 (40) Open Space Sessions - One. Reports to include Recommendations. =
How might reports be posted? Who can make that happen?
10.30 (40) Open Space Sessions - Two.=20
11.10 (15) gathering, posting & reading of reports, while having real =
cups of tea =E2=80=A6 in a virtual Coffee Break (the start of all things =
Open Space!)
Is there a way of putting virtual =E2=80=9Cdots=E2=80=9D onto the =
recommendations=E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6? Just curious. We probably don=E2=80=99t=
need to do this, as our gathering is primarily a wisdom sharing =
session, rather than an action session.
11.25 (20) Closing Circle=E2=80=A6. to share any other thoughts, =
feelings and wisdom that has not yet been expressed.
And talking of which=E2=80=A6. how might we have a virtual Graffiti =
Wall, for anyone to post thoughts that don=E2=80=99t seem to fit =
anywhere else?

Ok lovely Spacers of the Open kind=E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6

These are my thoughts and words for today=E2=80=A6. I have =
spoken=E2=80=A6..around the virtual fire that is the OSLIST. =F0=9F=94=A5

I have been to a few virtual/online open space sessions now. They =

Looking forward to being done with the pandemic and meeting people in =

=20
Count me in if it works out timewise.
=20
I=E2=80=99m in Central Europe so 12 Noon EST (New York/Toronto) is 6PM =

my time. Anything starting before 2PM EST (and ending when it ends :) =
works for me.

=20
I can=E2=80=99t get enough of QiqoChat (which is Zoom-based but offers =

some nice features for seeing the butterflies and hearing the buzz of =
the bumblebees=E2=80=94not ti mention collecting the posters on the =
walls). I=E2=80=99ve held several open spaces on QiqoChat, keeping it =
simple is key (for me.

=20
The difference between Zoom and face to face, is before you prepare =

the walls and put the chairs in a circle =E2=80=94 you have to build the =
whole room first. That turns out to be an enabling constraint for me.

=20
I also teach an Open Space facilitation course online that uses =

QiqoChat for the course meeting space. (We touch on online facilitation =
because, duh. But the course is about holding space in general not =
specifically online faciltatation. We we work with Micheal Herman=E2=80=99=
s and Chris Corrigan=E2=80=99s books (not to mention the OS Guide).

=20
So yeah count me in if it starts at the right time!
=20
Cheers,
Steve

Dear friends,
=20
I was thinking that this conversation could be one that we can post it =

and carried it forward in the next great Open Space that Suzanne Daigle =
was inviting us some days ago in this list and that I copy below.

=20
Hugs,
=20
Juan Luis
=20
PS: And here in Spanish you can see the report of my last and recent =

experience with all this new way of making open space =

=20

=20
Dear =E2=80=9CPeace and High Performance=E2=80=9D alumni colleagues =

and friends,

As you will have guessed, it will not be possible for us to meet at =

International House in January this year. The good news however is that =
we will be hosting this important gathering virtually instead. We hope =
many of you, like us, feel the great urgency to open more space in these =
times.=20

Here is a brief excerpt of our invitation warmly extended to all of =

you. Also the link with more details and registration information.=20

Please feel free to invite others.=20
https://osius.org/peace-high-performance-2021 =

<https://osius.org/peace-high-performance-2021>

=20
2021 INVITATION January 22-24, 2021 (from 10 am to 3 pm EST)
=E2=80=9CThe need and yearning to open more and more space has never =

been greater on our planet. These urgent times need us everywhere, all =
of us, head and heart. Together, we must challenge ourselves to invite =
broadly, to engage and inspire each other to action.

The key question and challenge facing us now could be:
=E2=80=9CHow do we engage 8 billion people in meaningful =

conversation?=E2=80=9D

The =E2=80=9COpening Space for Peace and High Performance=E2=80=9D =

gathering held at International House in New York City, with its =
timeless theme, is a long-standing tradition. This year, it will find =
its virtual home on QiQoChat and Zoom. We welcome individuals and =
groups who are seeking to learn and experience Open Space Technology for =
the very first time; or others who wish to deepen their facilitation =
practice with colleagues and friends.

It will unfold in the spirit of Open Space with its guiding 5 =

principles and law, ignited by a theme that has guided passion and =
responsibility over the years. We will seek the simple ways to engage, =
learn and share virtually together. Just as we have in the past, it will =
happen in January, honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King.

In 2020, Harrison Owen, the originator of Open Space Technology, =

presciently spoke of these times with all its system breakdowns and =
challenges as an extraordinary opportunity =E2=80=9Cto engage 8 billion =
people in useful conversation=E2=80=9D. It is a call to conversation and =
action that resonates for these times.

We look forward to being with you!=E2=80=9D
Karen, Suzanne and Harrison
