Hi all,

In case anyone here is interested, there will be an upcoming Dynamic
Facilitation 2-day deep dive in London
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/from-conflict-to-creative-breakthrough-dynamic-facilitation-in-action-tickets-95102854197>,
next month.

I think the main connection that I will offer here, about the connection I
see between OST and DF, is that it was my total joy and delight upon
reading Harrison Owen's detailed manual for OST, where he was "giving it
all away" (similarly to Marvin Weisbord and Sandra Janoff, with the Future
Search manual) which inspired me to write a manual for DF, and to then
persuade Jim Rough, DF's creator, that this manual should be widely
available, "open-sourced" in a similar manual.

Ever since then, it's been an absolute delight whenever I meet anyone who
has started exploring DF, simply from what is in the manual. It's usually
people who already have some experience with active listening, whether
through Non-Violent Communication, Playback Theatre, or some similar
practice which "gets" the value of helping people feel heard, by mirroring
back what people are saying. (And yes, I do realize that this is not
something we do in OST.... :-)

A second connection that is very significant to me, one that has to do with
the actual form of each process (rather than with the commitment to "give
it away"), is the delightful balance between a minimalistic structure that
allows a maximum amount of freedom. In a similar manner to how a productive
harvest is compiled after an Open Space event, after a DF session I greatly
enjoy creating a "light sort" document, which clusters thematically what
participants have usually experienced as a very creative, broad-ranging
conversation that did not appear to have much discernible structure --
other than having people speak one at a time, on whatever they want, while
the facilitator reflects back both orally as well as by harvesting the info
onto four charts. (When I teach, I have people start with just three, but
that's another story...)

Anyway, maybe. there are other parallels that some of you have experienced,
I will stop here for now, and truly hope that I have not caused offense or
violated group norms by posting the link above.

with all best wishes,

Rosa
