Dear friends and colleagues,
the Genuine Contact program was developed throughout the 1990's, with one
of its primary roots in Open Space Technology. In those early years of
working with OST, studying with Harrison, participating in great
conversations with wonderful people, I was fascinated with what
occurred within an OST meeting that I refer to as 'outcomes' and others
refer to with words like 'intangible capital'.

I realized that one of the greatest outcomes was genuine contact. Genuine
contact with the collective became apparent to me first, then genuine
contact with another, then genuine contact with self, and genuine contact
with creation/creator. Over the years I have found that as people
experienced this genuine contact, they did so in different sequences than
my experience. What was common was the overwhelming feelings, experience,
and heart to heart connection that was experienced. For some, it felt like
the first time to be in genuine contact.

Participating in multiple OST meetings fosters greater and greater
experience of genuine contact. At some point, anything that is not genuine
contact is not desired. This is an exciting factor in sustainability of a
new paradigm after an OST meeting, and definitely in those organizations
that make regular use of OST.

This experience generated one of the five beliefs of the Genuine Contact
program <https://www.dalarinternational.com/about-dalar/values-beliefs/>,
and its worldwide community of practice. We believe that focusing on
genuine contact enables individuals and organizations to achieve the
individual and organizational health and balance that is needed for optimal
effectiveness. Positive change in the organization is directly linked to
positive change in individuals. Both are required for sustainable new ways
of working.
