[OSList] Good questions for a OS

Peggy – I don’t have a copy of the “Users Guide” being now in Maine. But the words (from Chris Kloth) are vaguely familiar.  Ain’t claiming authorship – but might be….

 

Anyhow – Good Question? Something that sizzles and excites passion… for which there is no (present) answer.

Great question Craig!

 

I often go for a “what’s possible” question like the one in the picture below from bringing together journalists and librarians. (What’s possible for our communities and democracy when journalists and librarians work together?)

 

I also like questions that have some dynamic tension in them, like: How can we provide energy security and environmental well being for all? 

This was a friend’s question when seeking to bring together conservatives and progressives a few years back. 

 

As Chris Kloth said, questions that are big enough to stretch us yet not so big that we drown in them from confusion. I think that idea came from Harrison.

 

Always, always questions that point towards possibilities. 

 

And I find the most effective questions evoke a response on multiple levels - intellectual, emotional, material, and even spiritual.

Being clear about one’s own intention behind the question is one aspect!

 

To open space for exploration, I  love  „What if…?“ questions.

 

What I often experience as closing space are „How…?“ questions.

 

(And of course at the right time of an exploration, „how“ is valid and needed.)

 

I hope there will be many more different responses to this question of yours!
