Dear friends and colleagues,
Doris and Anna Caroline are making a timely offer to join them in The
Netherlands to learn about conflict, conflict resolution, and cross
cultural conflict resolution. As Anna Caroline writes with her example, we
teach that before assuming that the best first approach is conflict
resolution, we advocate for having an OST meeting around a topic of real
passion that people can get energized by....the topic is not about
'conflict or conflict resolution'. Often, the conflict, or what had been
perceived as conflict, gets cleared up during the OST without any need of
facilitation that addresses the conflict. Conflict resolution happens
naturally in OST if people are really energized about the topic they are
working on...and enough space/time is created for the natural flow.

We also like to use Whole Person Process Facilitation for the same
purpose...a more guided approach than OST yet with maximum choice, maximum
freedom provided. It seems that choice and freedom brings out the best in
people.

So, why in the world did I create Cross Cultural Conflict Resolution as one
of the modules of the Genuine Contact program? In the '90's I facilitated a
lot of OST meetings. On occasion, an action plan would surface from a group
of people who were in conflict within the bigger organization. They self
identified that they were in conflict, that the conflict was causing harm,
and that they needed help moving forward. The OST experience had brought
this awareness and conclusion to the surface along with the desire to move
beyond the conflict. And so, I chose to pull together a process that would
be congruent with OST, yet guided sufficiently to assist such groups move
past their conflict.

I don't use this method often...yet, when it is needed and requested by a
group of people, it has been a great process to help people along who are
stuck. Works great in families too.

Blessings,
Birgitt
