This is a quick note, to invite you to consider attending the 2-day
OPENSPACE AGILITY WORKSHOP (OSA,) scheduled for Berlin Germany in October.
"OSA" is a simple method of obtaining a rapid, genuine and lasting Agile
adoption. It employs Open Space Technology.
The basic idea of OSA is that we resist "being changed."
In OSA the ill-advised "mandate to change" is replaced with an
invitation... an invitation to participate in conducting experiments
with Agile practices. This is a radical departure from the way so-called
"Agile transformations" are attempted today.
Leaders who choose to use OSA must first define and communicate a
direction and a set of limits, or "guardrails." In OSA, the direction is
"continuous improvement" and the limits on practices are "the 12
principles of the Agile Manifesto." Invited participants are free to
make many decisions about practices, within that simple set of boundaries.
In OSA, engagement is the primary goal. Change is dealt with as a
temporary experiment to be inspected. Company leaders intentionally
refrain from forcing specific "Agile practices" on teams. Instead, the
teams experiment with any practices they choose, that stay within the
boundaries of the Agile Manifesto. The experiments are enterprise-wide,
and last 45 to 100 days.
In OSA, Open Space is the essential element. OSA begins and ends each
iteration of experimentation in an OST event of at least one day, with
full proceedings. In this manner, OSA implements enterprise-wide
iterations of change, encouraging participation and even authorship
(emergent leadership) as the change takes shape.
OSA is based on Prime/OS, which defines the core, iterative structure.
This is explained in the Workshop. Prime/OS can be used to introduce any
kind of change to any kind of organization. It is a way to quickly see
what the organization is willing to do now, and work progressively from
there, using Open Space principles. OSA is based on Prime/OS, and
implements Agile in an Agile way.
The OSA Workshop event in Berlin is two days, and includes an optional
teach-the-teacher segment on Day 2, for those who want to also work up
to someday teaching this class. Teaching OSA involves attending the
class, attending the teach-the-teacher segment, getting some experience,
and applying.
For OSLIST members, use code 'OSLIST" to take a $300 discount on the
