The question, Paul, is that talking to this or that DG at EU about the "need to open the space" is not enough. There is a strong need to explain what Open Space means!
In this case, they have used the name (Open Space), but nor the procedures of an OST event, neither the spirit of Open Space.
Regards
Artur

Good morning OpenSpacers:I have received from afriend this mail that announces a “Higher Education Open Space” organized bythe European Union. He sent me this happy because EU was adopting Open Spaceand he expected me to be happy with that. Here is the mail I have received:« Campus Europae Higher Education Open Space
The HigherEducation Open Space (HEOS) 2015,following up the Council's communiqué after Yerevan willprovide universities, students and stakeholder representatives an open, innovative and creative space for discussion on joint approaches to facethese challenges. It also aims to contribute in a concrete way tothe modernisation of higher education and to buildalliances to reinforce the competitiveness and governance of Europeanuniversities. It will allow for policy discussions and practical workingsessions through two main events: a conference on the 3rd of Novemberon how to reach 20% of student mobility by 2020 while maintaining the qualityof mobility flows; an Open Space on the 4th-5th of November addressingtopical issues of universities, students and stakeholders in the field of the modernisation agenda. Registeruntil 30 September 2015! » (end of the mail)If one looks to the Program (http://uni-foundation.eu/higher-education-open-space/conference)one finds the Agenda below (after my signature). There are a lotof speakers all the time!!! But even the sessions that could be "open" are like this: 1) The sessionon ”Disruptive innovation in the field of student mobility” has 4 experts speaking about it(no students, as far as I can see)2) The session of “GroupDiscussion” (14:00 - 15:00) has 4 predefinedsubjects:·        Funding strategies to increase exchanges·        Length matters: 1 semester vs. 1 year abroad·        Ad-hoc partnerships and international consortia·        The increasing importance of QA and recognition of credits
3)The Round-table (15:30 - 17:00) has 2 speakers (Profs). So my questionsare:-      Is this Open Space?-      What is the conceptof "Open Space" of the European Union?-      Did they get that name(Open Space) from OST facilitators from Europe or it was only the fact that “Open”is cool (and “Closed” is awful) and they don’t even know what OST is? I would like to have other opinions, especially fromEuropean people more close to the center of Europe (somewhere in the line fromBrussels to Berlin…)Regards and have anice week end Artur(From Portugal, in theSouthwest of Europe - or is it in the North of Africa?
