Artur,

To add to Harrison’s comments, Gleick was explicitly noted by more than one source who looks at organizations through the lens of complexity as their first entry into the world of self-organization. And he is a good read!

That said, James is a marvelous writer, and the stories he does tell are (I think) superbly done. As it happens, I was personally connected to one or two of them, and his descriptions and my experience correlate highly. So I would say read him for what he wrote, and forgive the rest.

(I don't know if there is an English translation: as I only find it in French, Spanish and Italian...). They are both written by a Physicist and an Anthropologist, but are written for the lay person.

That said, there are three books that I found to be most helpful, and all – to the best of my knowledge – are still in print. In historical order they are: “Order out of Chaos,” Ilya Prigogine, “Chaos,” James Gleick, and “At home in the Universe” Stuart Kauffmann. I would suggest starting with “Chaos” – which is the best written and pulls together lots of wonderful strands.
