[OSList] the first OS in the great mining in Chile (and butterflies)

Hi Jorge and Patricio, I'll do now the effort to respond in English so that everyone can understand.

Jorge is true that due to the predominance of a macho culture in the mining industry in Chile, long time ago we decided not to include the analogy of bees and butterflies, mainly to prevent the sarcastic jokes about butterflies that tends to designate gay people in the Latin-American culture, and that in the previous events made people laugh from the beginning to the end, from those that were involved in this manner in the OST. And of course that for that we had a special care to equally explain the three basic forms of participation in this unique space of freedom and real responsibility that they would be able to create, without naming the insects.

But today with the increased experience that we have, I do not think that I would do the same because I think that letting these jokes to take place, in some way will allow them to make more clear about their prejudices and discriminatory ways of relating that dominates in their culture. In this way I think they could take more consciousness of what they need to change in their usual way of behaving.

Anyway, it's interesting to note that, in essence, despite having rejected the analogies with the insects, the whole process occurred with the same magic and effectiveness as always occur in an Open Space.

This reminds me what Harrison always points us in the sense that space is always open, and also suggests me that maybe it's also true what I've heard to Artur Silva told us more than once in this list, in the sense that the 5 principles may also not be mentioned. Although I've never gotten to this far.

And somehow all this reflection is consistent with the predicament that "less is more", but to what extent?

And at this point perhaps the main question is: what really are the essential and fundamental components in an Open Space event?

I would love to hear the opinion from others.

Como tu sabes Juan Luis, soy partidario de describir las posibilidades de hacer uso de la libertad que impera en un Espacio Abierto sin usar las figuras de los insectos o solo usar la de las abejas pues creo que es  la única que logra configurar una imagen acertada de aquello que se quiere señalar.  En los otros dos casos de uso de la ley de los dos pies, ni las mariposas , ni las golondrinas, ni las hormigas o cualquier otro insecto o animal, creo que no logran configurar la imagen deseada. además, creo que lo importante es dejar abierto el uso de la libertad a la responsabilidad de cada participante. La invitación de fondo es " hazte cargo de ti mismo"

Eso por ahora, queridos amigos. Podemos darle más vueltas de tuerca al asunto

Estimado,

Tienes toda la razón. Hay un tema de machismo. Sin embargo, con OS se ha logrado iniciar un cambio cultural, no importando si colocamos un estereotipo como “mariposa” o “golondrina”, más bien es el concepto el que logramos implantar, y al final del día es lo que importa.

Luego compartiremos los resultados con la red mundial del OS.

Excellent Patrick and congratulations!

In my past experience with OST in the mining sector, in some way I had problems when speaking about butterflies. Did you have it also that funny issue?

It's a very macho culture that use for jokes that word, but certainly the experience of the open space is for the mining people like a balm that begins to wake up the hearts in a world that is hard as a rock.

Don't you think that?

I'll be looking your further report of findings.

Hello everybody!

Today is a great day, we have initiated the first OS in the large copper mining in Chile, in the city of Antofagasta.

For us, two researchers of the effectiveness of the technique, is very rewarding to see how our expectations overflow.

We are making a major milestone in companies large mining related. Now unite IPVC experience on OS.

Then analyze and communicate our findings.

It is a privilege to use OS, there is a great turnout and a world to discover.

Thanks to all who have helped with advice, suggestions and contributions.
