Question--For years, I have heard open space and talked about open space, creating open space, holding space, etc. . .My questions are:
1)  What is space and what is open space?  What are the components that make up open space or space that is really open?  From your experience, what are the qualities most characteristic of this quality of space and community?   
2)  What are the pillars that assist in holding it, once that quality of space is created?
Up until now, I see it as a metaphor that alludes to meaning but cannot denote it, descriptive more than prescriptive.  It is like Louis Armstrong when ask, Is that jazz, he said, if I have to tell you, it isn't jazz.  I think the same might be said for open space, but I still ask. . .how would you describe open space and its components?
