[OSList] Dealing with conflicts

Everybody had a great story! And No need to "prepare the folks." Just open
space for the issue they care about. They will do the rest. So how about 50
Palestinians and Israelis? -- all operational sorts (well mostly), and the
focus was "Ending the cycle of violence." A hot one to be sure. As to the
approach... no pre-work, no advance training, no mediation, no anger
management, no ...

They just sat in a circle, created a bulletin board, opened a market place,
and went to work. Seriously!

2 1/2 days later they were standing at the end of the closing circle with
tears in their eyes, hugging and kissing. It happened. And they did it all
by themselves.

Subject: [OSList] Dealing with conflicts

Dear all,

I just spent a week in a community in France that is divided by quite a
large conflict. Have anyone of you used OS with a group of people where the
conflict is at its hight and emotions are still strong? I can see that OS
can be used in complex conflictual situations, but wonder whether you would
first spend time bringing down their emotions to a 'manageable' level before
attempting to bring them together into an OS.

Do you have any experiences in this regard? I'd be very interested in your
reflections!

Thank you,

Marie Ann
