[OSList] "Academic Validity?" (again) [was: Re: (no subject)]

And for anybody who cares. I am not offended, insulted, or otherwise
compromised - except for the continuing loss of neuronal patterns. Artur - I
Love you! And I was JOKING! Horrible American habit. We say one thing - and
mean totally the opposite. How weird is that? And a lesson for myself - This
is a GLOBAL COMMUNITY, in which we all appear as we are, dressed in our
cultural drag (.another bad American  saying) - and we totally need to
understand that others may not understand us in the way we intended. And
isn't that sad/wonderful? Just another day in Open Space.

Artur! I'm insulted!! What do you mean, "but his post is IMHO off topic?" I
guess part of the problem is that I never did learn what "IMHO" means.
Possibly an indigenous war cry? (IM-HO!!) A new synthetic nutrient, somehow
related to TOFU? The Portuguese translation of SNAFU? Oh well, antediluvian
that I am.

1. I fully agree with Barbara.

2. I also agree with Harrison, but his post is IMHO off topic.

3. I am always surprised when people ask questions about a topic (especially
if it is about a research topic) without having previously done some little
research of their own. My result of a simple search on "research" at
"openspacespaceworld.org" conducted me to here:

here: http://www.openspaceworld.org/cgi/wiki.cgi?ResearchActivities.

Someone is confused!  "Research methods" are things like lab research, field
research, qualitative research, unobtrusive methods i.e. ways of collecting
data
to study behavior.

Focus groups, Delphi, and yes, even Open Space are methods used for specific
purposes in organizations (and elsewhere). They are not research methods.
And
yes, there has been research employing focus groups, Delphi, etc in order to
study some behavior or outcome.

It's may be difficult to create a good research study using Open Space but I
imagine it may already exist or could be done.  B3
