[OSList] "Academic Validity?" (again) [was: Re: (no subject)]

2. I also agree with Harrison, but his post is IMHO off topic.


3. I am always
surprised when people ask questions about a topic (especially if it is about a research
topic) without having previously done some little research of their own. My
result of a simple search on "research" at
"openspacespaceworld.org" conducted me to here: http://www.openspaceworld.org/news/cat/openspacetech/research/ and
then to here: http://www.openspaceworld.org/cgi/wiki.cgi?ResearchActivities.

Someone is confused!  "Research methods" are things like lab research, field
research, qualitative research, unobtrusive methods i.e. ways of collecting data
to study behavior.

Focus groups, Delphi, and yes, even Open Space are methods used for specific
purposes in organizations (and elsewhere). They are not research methods.  And
yes, there has been research employing focus groups, Delphi, etc in order to
study some behavior or outcome.

It's may be difficult to create a good research study using Open Space but I
imagine it may already exist or could be done.  B3
