Hello, dear colleagues -

Late-breaking news - perhaps something do-able for those of you in
Canada and the United States...
The 2012 North American Conference of the International Association of
Facilitators is happening in Halifax, Nova Scotia this May 9 through
12. It is a great conference for going to a selection of short
workshops - especially if you are less familiar with the diversity of
approaches, styles and methods facilitators of different types use.
The IAF conference is also a lovely opportunity for networking with
both experienced and new facilitators from corporate, government and
non-profit sectors.

I have just been offered the opportunity to give people in my
professional network a $50 discount off registration for the main
conference and workshops being offered on May 11 and 12. Pre-
conference workshops are also being offered on May 9 and 10.

This year the conference has partnered with a local University instead
of a hotel - so accommodations are much more affordable ($47 [USD I
think] for a single room and $74 for a double). Perhaps that can also
help some of you on tighter budgets. There is also a hotel 10 minutes
away for those who prefer. And: Halifax is a lovely city - and the
home of our great hosts for the 2005 WOSonOS. Maybe when you go, the
local McDonald's will be serving their McLobster sandwich. No
kidding! The Halifax Waterfront is lovely and will be the site of the
IAF conference's 'Gala Dinner', including traditional Maritime
entertainment.

One of the things I have found is that by sampling processes and
approaches in this very-short-format workshop conference setting - I
can find out where I might in future like to spend my precious dollars
for some really great presenter's full / long-form workshop.

Workshop topics include:

	• The secrets to marketing and selling facilitation services
	• Facilitation as a change agent
	• When you can’t fire the clients: Dialogue session
	• Integrated risk management
	• Creating a culture of collaboration
	• Beyond Facilitation …being a level 5 facilitator
	• Communication across the ages
	• The path from a difficult conversation to a learning conversation
	• Creativity tools for team facilitation
	• What power got to do with it: Understanding the impacts of
dominance in group facilitation
	• Facilitating teams for lasting change
In between these sessions are plenty of times for networking and
holding one-on-one conversations with other facilitators.

Some of the colleagues I have met through this conference have
remained great friends and thoughtful resources over the years.

Have a great time in Halifax, and cheers to my colleagues in that
lovely part of the world,

Lisa
