Hi, dear - OSLIST is not taking my postings (!) so I am contacting you
directly. Feel free to share my comments with the OSLIST if you think it's
helpful.

Wow.

I guess I would say b-r-e-a-t-h-e -- and you'll know if it is not the right
time for Open Space if outside energy makes it not a safe container for OS
and dialogue.

My first idea would be to warmly welcome (and have the organizers do this as
well) the angry folks to say come and join - it's about issues you care
about so come and join.

Let go the theme if that is closing space. Make a general theme that
embraces all.

Sometimes people who are angry just need to be angry - the first rule of
customer service is not to solve the customer's problem first thing - first
thing is to let them tell their story and truly listen so they feel
witnessed in their feelings. *Then* offer them a possible solution, which
they may or may not be able to hear (right then).

I don't know if you will be the useful welcoming inviting voice (if you are
a person outside their system) or if you will be just the right voice
(because you are indeed outside their system). The true and open welcoming
and invitation should come from the host/organizers of course as well.

And you will all know if this is the time for Open Space -or- if it is more
important to take a few steps back and have the hosts work on invitation and
relationship building again - the foundation of pre-work for any issue
regarding conflict, OS or otherwise...

B r e a t h e....and stay light on your feet,

Our thoughts are with you,

Lisa
