I would second my friend Phelim's wise and nuanced response here. It's not a question of good or rubbish but of passion and responsibility. Even a list of questions in the room that are disembodied from the askers is - aesthetically speaking - more about absence than presence.

An alternative might be to find a website somewhere that will let you set up a forum or a wiki where people can pose these questions and convene online conversations. That way you'll know if there is real responsibility behind the passion and the questions will be there for the benefit of the conversation. You could of course also have that space as a place for people from the event to post their notes and engage with others who can't make it. I've done that dozens of times using instant blogs, nings, facebook pages and wikis.

If it feels right. If they are there already or created as an add on before it could be seen as a seperate directive not from the right people who have come. However if there is no energy for them then no one will be interested in them of course. So it will all work out. But I noticed in this last IETM os I just did in Berlin the fact that there were documenters there to report and not really join in undermined the energy of the report they created. I E in the background a figure that was going to do the report for them anyway as an organisation. I really feel the importance of the energy of those who came is really it. Not those elsewhere. However someone who is present might be the right person to speak for those people who aren't there in the moment.

>> Good point! That reminds me of something else I’d like to run by you guys. As with all events like this, we’ve had people come back and say they’d love to attend but they can’t. I’m encouraging them to email me the questions they would have asked at the conference, so we can post them on the walls in case they inspire questions in others. I was going to add those questions / comments to the final report, in an addendum.
