SV: Open space with youth 9 - 16?

Didn’t follow this thread fully but just came to think of something
important when it comes to young people and Open Space. I usually recommend
free coffee and something to eat. But free cookies may not be the way to go.
One 3rd grader (9 yrs old)had to go home at lunch because his stomach
ached...

Another story. Once in a closing circle in an OS with politicians and
youth/teenagers – both said the same thing – actually I noticed that it is
possible to have a good conversation with a politician/a teenager... That’s
what I call high learning.

Lots of hugs to all OS collegues

Great inquiry Bret!

Done lots of work with young people, use to be one myself..long ago. One
thing to keep in mind is that us up here in the adult world can sometimes
think of young people as a "constituancy" or group. Young people I have
worked with remind me to not think of young people as a single group. We
dont approach working with adults that way, ie "i will be working with
adults..how should I approach this." Having said that I a few hobbit tricks,

lots of snacks

big harvest wall with open opportunity for everyone and anyone to "tag" it
in anyway they like.

Have a little video camera on a lap top and if possilbe let they leave a
video response to ....? the event, a question you have posed at the
station?....this can be a real buzz and something to feed live, or capture
or whatever you think.

And, depending on you food ethic, pizza is a hit and acts as a great
modivator and social lubricant....

have fun and let us know how it goes.

Hi there ... (Ria please forward onto the list for me)

Thanks Ria. Yes I have done lots of open space with youth in different
contexts all over the world ... we even ran a 10 day youth festival in
Slovenia only in Open Space - from the cooking/cleaning to the conversations
/ workshops. Very cool. Lots going on with integrating social media these
days too, which is great.

Please drop me an email if you'd like to connect. I'd be happy to share
stories, ideas etc etc

Dear Lisa,

I was about to say the really great bit is doing it in a language you don’t
even understand
because it still works!

It always helps if somebody translates what you achieved for you (!!!) but
200 Mongolian street children (once we had located the missing 2
) smiling
and laughing getting back on the buses after two days of Open Space is the
biggest tribute I can offer to the ‘miracle’ of Open Space

And yes
it’s still hot here in Singapore
