I'm impressed!

Dear OS-Listers

Since early 2007 I have been holding space for the Swiss Midwifes
Association, first on a regional scale, and this year in January, it was a
national OS event. Over time, they have realized that they need to start PR
work in order to "stay in business" (if assisting natural births can be
called a business.). Cesarians have grown to over 30 percent in Switzerland
because they seem to be "more convenient" (and nobody tells you about their
negative consequences if you don't ask persistently.), and young people
don't know anymore what a midwife is and can do for them. And since 2007,
they have also become a lot more confident that they really have an
important message for the public.

This past May 5th was International Midwife Day, for which the Swiss
midwifes planned lots of PR activities in the 2009 OS event, based on the
new slogan (found in the 2008 OS event): "It is important how we are born".
They ended up with more than 100 published articles from short to several
pages, 5 different TV emissions and several radio emissions, not to speak of
several activities in hospitals and public squares.

Ok, we did some serious work together to prepare for this, and all of it in
their very own "midwife way" of working together, discussing, being, letting
things grow and ripen. I am so proud of what they have achieved - and so are
they! The responsible person just wrote "We have topped our goal."

Gratefully, C.
