Hi Harrison,
All offers to help are welcomed and yours feels very special. Your words of
encouragement on this project of an adapted OST user guide in French, your
availability in person and on this OS List when some aspects need more
understanding and discussion and the spirit in which you show up, are all
great contributions to this project. You may not have a specialty skill
with the French language but participants in the group of interested people
will act as checks and balances to each other on the aspect of language and
the formulation of concepts. This is a great way to build community.
Its also an exciting way to start the new year,
Diane

Diane you said, This project was more an adaptation than a translation
which is not my specialty skill. Wonderful! I am always delighted when
somebody translates The Users Guide especially now that we are in a
glorious new 3rd Edition! But!! Writing from your own experience is where it
is really at. And Diane you have massive amounts of experience. So my
friends Go for it! I will be pleased to help in any way I can but do
understand that my specialty skill does not include the French Language. L

Happy New year to everyone!
Just coming back from our seasonal family celebrations, its wonderful to
see the energy flowing around a project of pooling resources to create some
form of OST users guide in French.
I had been planning for a while to work on a French users guide. I wanted
to do more writing on principles, concepts and examples to complement the
tools I developed over the years for OST training so that such a guide would
be well anchored in the spirit of OS, the essential part, like the original
Harrison version. This project was more an adaptation than a translation
which is not my specialty skill. In the OST training I offer, this
conceptual part was covered with the experience of an actual OS event, the
dialogue following it and with existing articles in French, some of which
are on my web site and the openspaceworld.org site.
There had been talk of addressing the creation of a French book on OST at
the first FoFo (Francophone OSonOS) in September 2007 but creating the
francophone OS network took priority.
Esther Matte, a Montreal (now temporarily New York) OST colleague had
expressed to me interest in working on such a book but she and I had ongoing
timing issues on our respective agendas that hampered getting that project
started. This morning, as I was returning from my holidays and just before
she left for her holidays, Esther contacted me about a joint client and we
spoke briefly about the recent OS List exchange about a French guide. We
both agreed that this invitation at a specific time and place for a
collective pooling of materials is what is needed to get the project going
and certainly, it will bring great richness to the outcome.
Count me in Marquis as per your invitation on the OS list to begin this
collective project at the June 18 - 20, 2009 second international FoFo
(Forum ouvert sur le Forum ouvert) organized by the Réseau francophone du
Forum ouvert (OS Francophone Network anchored in Canada but international
in scope <http://fosurfo.blogspot.com/> http://fosurfo.blogspot.com/ ).
On the OS list, similar voices around the planet have expressed interest in
collaborations. It all sounds good!
The best in the coming year to all, in the OS community, to others who open
space whether they know it or not, and to those who will one day open space
in their own way.
