Books or Articles

Chris:

Those are great additions as well. As long as it is clear that it is
specifically about OS or OST. There are a bazillion books and articles that
provide support to an OS perspective, for example all of Stewart Kauffman’s
work, but that is another list (it seems to me). What I need are citations
(in addition to web address). I need Author. Date. Title. Location. Website
(same as publisher). If only a portion of the work is about OST or OS
explicitly then I need to page numbers for that portion.

Many are now coming in from a variety of sources. It will be great to have
them collected.

Just on that point too, there are several e-books now published on Open
Space including two collections of stories: one by Raffi (Living
<http://www.archive.org/details/LivingPeaceTheOpenSpaceOfOurLives> Peace)
and one by Holger Nauheimer (New

my The Tao of Holding <http://www.archive.org/details/TheTaoOfHoldingSpace>
Space, which is a kind of deep meditation on the practice of OST
facilitation.

None of these are peer reviewed or published by a publishing house, but they
were compiled and released in the spirit of the User's Non-Guide, and they
were prepared with a lot of thought. they're good reads too and I think
worthy additions to the field. in fact the free, online library of e-books
on Open Space is pretty impressive when you add all of Harrison's
manuscripts into the mix as well.

Greetings all,

These past few evenings, I've been reading OS posting that were collected
by Michael Herman and Chris Corrigan written by 37 OST practitioners
including Harrison from November 2001 to January 2002. (two short months,
over 100 pages...so very inspiring, with large chunks having to do with
invitation)

Well worth it if anyone's looking for some cozy and meaningful reading over
the holidays. Also it would seem that these "in the moment" discussions on
the OS list are worthy of some mention somewhere?

Harrison & all:

I do have a list posted on the appropriate ning blog
(http://openspaceworld.ning.com/profiles/blogs/do-you-know-of-any-citations
). It is in the blog as a post. I have received a few more additions (some
of which I wrote and hadn’t included). As I recall, when I put the original
list together, I did not include stuff that was previous to 1995 and I
focused on more academic sources. There are many many popular press pieces
on OST. OSI Canada published some stuff many years ago. I think for the
wiki site, more recent academic type stuff – books, journal articles, etc
would be the most helpful. Web access to materials is also most helpful
now. Pulling together everything written about OST is more than I had in
mind. Maybe you can get google or some nice student volunteer to scan those
in to an archive.

Larry -- I have a thick folder of articles. Some may be online. But before I
go through listing them all maybe you (or somebody) could offer a
list-to-date? One of my favorites is a publication from Peace Corps in 1995
with dozens of tales of Open Space from all over the world. suppose I could
scan some of this stuff and put it on a website?

I had forgotten about the Nov 2004 AI Practitioner! There's a link to the
issue on my web site:

http://www.opencirclecompany.com/AIP.Nov04.OSandAI.htm

Anne Stadler edited an issue of At Work Magazine dedicated to Open Space in
March/Aril 1997. The stories used to be on the www.openspaceworld.org
<http://www.openspaceworld.org/> web site. I did some searching but
couldn't locate them. Michael -- can you help?

Larry - you had a story on Bank of Montreal in that issue. I had one on
forming the Open Space Institute-US. Birgitt had one on the social service
organization she led. There's even a story on Open Space in Cyberspace by
Lisa Kimball and Douglass Carmichael. Not bad for 1997! There's one from
Paul Gleiberman on Boeing and more.

Hi Larry

Yes Christine, the London England based AI Practitioner magazine on Emerging
in Appreciative Space was the Nov 2004 edition totally focused on OST and
AI. I have a full electronic copy if that helps you Larry.

Here is the title of a book on AI which included a section describing and
supporting OST (chapter 6 under Leadership en action dans la fonction
publique). Since Wikipedia has a French section, this might be of interest:
Dynamiser l’organisation avec la démarche appréciative, par Pierre-Claude

Sending you separately as an attachment, the article Open for Business where

I’m still trying to roust out any articles or publications that feature Open
Space Technology and get a good list available for potential use for us or
on the Wikipedia site. I have provided a sizable bibliography on a recent
blog at the ning site.
http://openspaceworld.ning.com/profiles/blogs/do-you-know-of-any-citations

Some of that is also available at openspaceworold.org
<http://openspaceworold.org/> on the research page

Please, if you know other citations of journal or other articles,
dissertations, or books with a focus on OST please blog on the ning site,
send them to me or post them on the openspaceworld wiki.
