New Year's Resolutions/eliminating the Middle Man

Fair enough, Doug, a blinding flash of the obvious -- but what happens next?
I think of a young(er) friend who read my book in DRAFT and said something
to the effect -- "I love all this self-organizing stuff, but it is also true
that I have a business to run, people to pay, and product to get out the
door. How can I do that?" This fellow has a business, but I don't think the
situation would be much different if he happened to be a County Exec or the
director of an NGO. Just for the sake of the argument let's suppose that you
(we) were consultants/coaches to such a person. What do they do on Monday
morning (and Tuesday, Wednesday. . .)? And how do we help them?

Harrison--

What do I think? I think you're on to the obvious--but then again,
remember that my brain is inside out because it has been on open space
for so long!

I'm curious how others re-vision what you say in terms of communities?

Harrison--

You have succeeded in getting me to think precisely where my difficulty
is and where my live questions are. This is how far I have gotten this
morning:

My difficulty with self organization in communities is with the notion
that we have to start with an organization, or we have to create one. Or
create a movement. The live question for me is how to overcome that
manner of thinking; how to foster self-organization thinking.

This might come down to finding or making poke holes in the fabric of
community, where we can rip open the grey cloth with which we have
covered self organization.

Or it might mean pointing out (to whom?) that self organization is what
is already going on: with the results we are currently getting; and with
the possible results in the direction we want to go.
