                  Hello C2D2 network,

We just received this note below from Janet Fiero of AmericaSpeaks via the NCDD listerv about a landmark effort to bring the voices of low-income families into discussions in the US. AmericaSpeaks is looking for volunteer facilitators (at least 300 for each city) who can help them in Birmingham Alabama, Chicago Illinois and Los Angeles California on September 6th.

Because time is so short, we are forwarding this message as we received it (that is, in English only).

This could be a great opportunity to help out, to see AmericaSpeaks in action, and to get some great ideas about bringing important voices into discussions that affect people's lives and communities.

Please, as Janet suggests, forward the information to your networks. And, if you are interested and available in personally helping on September 6th, there is contact information below for each city.

Hope you're having a wonderful summer!

                  Miriam and Joanna

                  Dear NCDD friend,

AmericaSpeaks is working with the Marguerite Casey Foundation’s Equal Voice for America’s Families ( http://www.equalvoice2008.org/) Campaign. They have launched an extraordinary effort to bring the collective voices of low-income families to the table including traditional town meetings in 63 cities across the country.

The next important step in Equal Voice for America's Families is a National Convention to be held in three cities on September 6th. There will be more than 3,000 people in Birmingham, Alabama; Chicago, and Los Angeles - a total of more than 9,000 participants! We will need to recruit at least 300 table facilitators in each of those cities. This is an historic opportunity to help build a community of low-income families across the nation that will develop an action plan going forward.

Recruiting 900 facilitators in less than a month is a significant challenge! Please help AmericaSpeaks by taking the time today to spread word about this opportunity to any of your networks, colleagues, clients, and friends who might like to be a table facilitator or who can help reach others who might consider facilitating.

There are three ways you can help us reach our goal of 900 facilitators:
                  1. o Share this link with your facilitator networks http://www.americaspeaks.org/facilitationopportunities/EVAF
                  2. Send the attached short description of the project and the key recruitment facts as an email to anyone or any organization you know that might be interested in facilitating
                  3. Send an to site managers directly (Birmingham – Mattice Haynes ( mattice at americaspeaks.org); Chicago – Daniel Clark ( dclark at americaspeaks.org); Los Angeles – Jesse Sostrin ( jesse at sostrinconsulting.com) with suggestions of organizations, networks or individuals to whom we should connect!

Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide!
                   Janet
