Micheal, Harrison--

I found myself thinking of invitation a couple of weeks ago, while musing on
a visit to a client that is trying to move away from command and control and
the experts doing everything, toward greater collaboration and personal
responsibility. I had watched them use invitation in a very powerful way, and I
wanted to encourage them to make invitation a more common practice.

"Invitation is a useful practice when you want to move away from command and
control:

     Invite . . . to the meeting
     Invite . . . to participate
     Invite . . . to take responsibility
     Invite . . . to take action

Asking and inviting create a very different dynamic from telling and
helping."
