I thought I had sent this to the list for the conversation. Sorry.

Catherine:

I agree with Michael and would state it even more strongly! You said,
"What does the one board member on our side say in his welcome speech?"
You can't hold the space for the "whole" when you identify with one of
the sides - "our side". The power based of the organization has shifted
in a direction you do not like, given the hiring of the new "hunter".
Still if the whole organization is to open and change again, the sponsor
needs to be the "whole board". They need to determine the theme (focus)
and boundaries then hire a facilitator (not likely you as you are on one
side).

Any other event is not the organization as a whole but that of a
subgroup trying to change the organization (with the support of only one
board member?). The "conversation" in open space is then likely about
how do we change this organization - or start a new one. An open space
session can lead to new realizations and relationships, and changes
power dynamics during the event. If it threatens the current ongoing
power dynamics, and those in power are not ready and willing and does
not lead to some new resolutions during the event, it can create
substantial anger and frustration after the event. I have seen this
happen.

All the best in the planning and preparation for this one.
