Opening Space for Peace

I think I should add to this piece that even though there are occasions when
we (I) find ourselves in special and critical "peace making" situations, the
truth of the matter is that EVERY TIME space is opened peace breaks out, and
every little bit of Peace helps. All of which is to say that "our job" (if I
can put it that way) is to open space every where, any time, about anything
that people care about -- and all of this contributes to Peace on the
Planet. I think.
When people find themselves constricted (no space) they become contrary,
cantankerous and worse. The animal psychologist tell us that that if you put
too many rats in a cage they will kill each other. I think the same goes for
human beings. The situation may be some corporate power play, or community
dead end -- but the effect is "No Space" -- and the results are predictable.
Folks will get angry, loose their cool, and be more than susceptible to the
next demagogue who promises to knock down the neighbor's fence to make more
room. We can and must keep the space open.
