OK time for a confession - which if turned over becomes an invitation.
The poem "Diving Deep" which danced its way serendipitously into this poetry
contest was one of a handful of poems I've written in my adult life AND NOW
I blushingly wear the tiara of the OSLIST Poet Laureate. I wholly was
playing and completely trusting the honor of Poet Laureate to pass me by.
So what of this tiara?
It is an invitation for ME and I imagine MANY on this list to play more
fully with word and image.
David Whyte speaks of Why Poetry Matters:
Poetry is an intimate conversation with the wonders and difficulties of the
world,
a pilgrim path to a place where we are able to combine our fear, our
fierceness,
and our faith to make a life we can call our own-
no matter the difficulties that seem to surround us.
The invitation: Bring on the poets, the shy poets, the closet poets, the
loud poets. Bring to the list are favorites and those we use and discover
as we Open Spaces and ones that open spaces in our hearts.
Lately, "threshold" poems have been grabbing me. it seems appropriate here
too as I think of all the new beginnings that are sparked in Open Space and
the joy of finding "the other." At the Threshold below is one of those
poems. I've also included the original Diving Deep poem that brought me
into this flow with you.
Enjoy

At the Threshold
Gunilla Norris, 2003
Stand at the kitchen door with me.
Honor the heart of transformation.
Honor your own heart
where everything is
always changing.
It is the very same dwelling.
Pause at the door.
Your heart needs this.
My heart needs this time
for recognition or it will go astray.
It will forget to reach for
its real joy.its true becoming.
Pause at the door.
This is good and necessary
for this room is every room.
The world lives here.
Pausing each day helps us know
nothing is outside of us.
Honor the heart that can feel
the joy and the terror of
the world in you and in me.
Only what is truly human
can walk this path, walk through
and be constant. Bow to that heart.
Hold my hand. I need you for courage.
We become who we are together,
each needing the other. Alone is a myth.
The path leads through this door.
I cannot go to the kitchen without you.
Let us enter together.

Diving Deep
Diving Deep
Are you ready?
No I mean.
Are you READY?
The time is now
Hold my hand
Together we dive
Into the river of heart and soul
The water is deep and quick
All there is to do is trust the flow
Struggling makes no sense though
We don't know where the river goes
The choice is clear
Ready
Set
Wait a minute Let me catch my breath
Go.
