my work of tonight

Ted Ernst ted at chicagohumanist.org
Tue Mar 21 19:51:03 PST 2006

I think I've written a bit here before about holding space for a
Tantra community. Tonight was the 3rd such meeting and the principal
didn't want to use open space again. I learned this less than 5
minutes before the scheduled opening time. I've very conflicted
inside. I've written a long account of the evening on my blog for
anyone that cares to delve deeper: http://tedernst.com/wp/?p=377

Maybe a more general question to ask would be "What do you do when the
sponsor wants to back out at the last minute?"

peace,
ted

Would be happy to collaborate or carry Lisa Hefts' bags...

It's all those hats and tiaras and such that make them so heavy.

.or do you mean the bags under my eyes.?

Oh. Either way, I could use the help ;o)

..or should I say ;:o)

Sounds like a breathing lesson...

It certainly shifted your role from space-holder to participant, and it

Great learning for you and for the group. I wonder how everyone felt

It sounds like it might be useful to engage the conversation in advance =

Oh. Hmmm. To answer your question above: I would say that if it =

Hi, brother Chris -

One of the best themes I've seen a core planning group come up with in =
an
incredibly high-conflict situation - where people couldn't even breathe =
they
were in a place of such pain, fear and anger - was:

=20

"Getting Unstuck"

=20

In the opening I presented it as not a time for solutions, but an =
airing.
Getting more air around it all.

=20

So that's different than everybody understanding each other exactly, and
certainly different than people changing each other. But it's certainly =
an
opportunity for naming things, for deep listening, for witnessing.

Of course a single event doesn't shift behavior, so much work was done =
by
that group post-Open Space event - they learned communication tools,
adjusted the way they held meetings, kept meeting and so on.
