USB-sticks and computer station during OST + some more..

Hi Diane,

Lisa has eloquently answered your question with a similar answer to what
I would provide. The most important thing is to designate a newsroom
coordinator whether it is someone on the client side, or the facilitator
side.

I do all of my work with my wife Maureen McCarthy so we generally switch
off who will be doing what, opening space, holding space, coordinating
the newsroom, picking up cups.

In the past, and some of our colleagues presently, sometimes bring a
support/admin person who coordinates the newsroom if they are the only
facilitator and the client is not able to provide a support person.
(When the client is not in position to provide someone, this is usually
because everyone wants to participate directly in the Open Space
discussions).

Whatever the situation we feel it is important that there is always
someone to "hold space" during the event. There is something that
happens when there is someone simply holding space vs. being lost in the
details. That is not to say that some people are able to do both, or
find that the details provide them with the presence to hold space.

In any case, we are always mindful that holding the space is the most
important part of facilitating OS.

with grace and love,

Zelle

Hi, Frank -

=20

Frank asked if anyone has thoughts on the pros and cons of wiki vs.
floppy/usb for an electronic Newsroom.

=20

I think using whatever technology helps people access information is a =
great
thing. However, I think if you create notes for/in an on-line =
environment,
it works more for people who visit online environments and who use =
computers
regularly. So if there is anyone in your participant group who is not =
like
that (and I think it would be useful to ask at, for example, =
registration)
you / the client would want to make darned sure that those other folks =
get a
Book of Proceedings as a Word or pdf document or get a hard-copy one =
posted
to them in the mail. So everyone of all cultures is included and has =
equal
access.

=20

Also: many people use Books of Proceedings long after the event, to look =
up
a group of people who met on an issue (to continue that discussion =
further
or use them as advisors), to excerpt quotes for a funding proposal, and =
so
on. So I would hope that any on-line environment remains available and
accessible to the participants months or a year afterwards (just like a =
book
in your hand or a file on your own computer is). =20

=20

My two cents / rubles / rands,

=20

Lisa
