Hi, all -

'Teaching' OS just doesn't resonate for me - it doesn't reflect the
co-learning values of OS. Anyway, how would you teach what people know
inside already?
I tell people to read the book (as does Brother Chris), and if they want
to come to my 'Open Space Learning Workshops' (I don't call them
trainings because it's co-learning), it's experiencing an OS, after
which small groups teaching back to the class what they've learned, then
a day of sharing thoughts with each other, hearing and sharing stories
of variations, design, 'what-ifs' and so on, looking at photos of
diverse OSs, looking at diverse Books of Proceedings, trying out
designing invitations, exploring some themes, doing some role plays,
hearing (by proxy) a lot of wise words from you folks on the OSLIST, and
getting a booklet of handouts that help people learn more on their own
after the workshop (checklists, thoughts from international OS
facilitators, sample themes and invitations, and so on).
I think the greatest value of going to a workshop together to share
learning is experiential learning, meeting and growing a community of
mutual support and practice, playing ideas off each other, and generally
having a nutritious, engaging time.
Well what a good segue: I am hosting an Open Space Learning Workshop
December 7-9 in San Francisco - you, dear readers, may have seen an
earlier posting. I would be delighted to learn with and from any of you
who may wish to join me there. Contact me if you would like more
information.
Take care,
Lisa
