Hi Lucas!
I am happy that there is some more interest in HHH.
And thank you, Lucas, for all the HHH technology possibilities.
So, do we have an HHH of three right now? That would make it Funda (Turkey),
you (Spain?), and me (uh, Russia)?
Any other takers?
For me 3 is enough of a critical mass to get this started. If you are all
open to it, we could begin talking about a time to do this. For me,
personally it would be preferable on a Sat. or Sun.-- 21 or 22nd May. A 2-3
hour meeting of intoxicating Spirit(s)...
Warmly,
Raffi
Re Halifax Happy Hour
For group keyboard-conversations I think we have:
- specific software such as http://www.openspace-online.com
- instant messenging (IM) such as http://www.jabber.org or
http://gaim.sf.net
- IRC (internet relay chat) such as http://www.xchat.org or
http://www.ircap.net
If people using IRC want to actually e-meet, then they should find a
server, create a "room", and flock there:
- Servers? http://www.irc-hispano.org and a zillion others. Any irc
software has a huge list of available irc "networks" (many "access
sites" in each network - you can access the network through any "access
site" - easier done than said).
- Create a room? Easy: use command "/j #openspace" (and if "room
openspace" does not exist then it's created - easiest way ever to open
space). (Of course you can create "break-out spaces" on demand.)
- Flock there? Just tell others where and when, and be ready to be
surprised, I guess.
If other commitments don't pop up their unpredictable heads, I'll
create or join #openspace at http://www.irc-hispano.org tonight at
22:00 GMT or around that time. (I make no promisses as I may simply
forget.) If more are interested we can set up another date and take it
easy. Contact me with email or IM lgs0a at yahoo dot es
The theme? How about "Issues and oportunities regarding real-time
communication and OST"? There's a whole unwashed mass of teenagers
waiting to discover OS and use it locally ...
Lucas

This came in today for posting on the website. We don't really have a
place for such things at openspaceworld.org. Seemed like it might be
of interest to some here. Any questions should be directed to the
email address in their message. I'm only the messenger on this one.

Around the world during the month of June, people will be joining to
counter violence and injustice. This is not a global protest against
something; it is a united action for something: building community.
The event, called 'Open Homes, Listening Hearts,' was launched in 2002
by Initiatives of Change, an 80-year old network of people working for
reconciliation and justice in over 50 countries. 'Open Homes' gives
individuals around the world the opportunity to reach out to people of
different faith and ethnic backgrounds by sharing a meal and personal
stories in their homes.
We hope that you and Open Space Institute will be interested in
helping Initiatives of Change to promote 'Open Homes' this year. The
goal is to make the event, and the idea that dialogue is an integral
step toward societal change, available to as many people as possible.
You can help by promoting 'Open Homes' on your website and including
the month-long event in your website's event listings, encouraging
members to start an 'Open Homes'event in their local communities, or
planning an 'Open Homes' event yourself.
Please take the time to read the attached handbook for a more in-depth
discussion of the event. More information and resources are available
on our website (www.ohlh.org), by email (info at ohlh.org), or by phone
(202-872-9077).
Thank you,=20

Subject: your thoughts on really big invitations?
Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
Content-Disposition: inline
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit
hi all,
i've got an interesting situation emerging here and i'd appreciate
some design thoughts. i'm in conversation with a firm whose business
is surveys for big companies. they poll 10s of 1000s at a time on
engagement, leadership, alignment, innovation type issues. they've
been at it a long time and are very good at what they do.
my idea is that these surveys, which are always done anonymously,
could be very effective invitations. that would require putting a
one-paragraph 'invitation' at the end, directing anybody who would
want to be (and the wording here is an open question, but
essentially...) in conversation with their colleagues about the issues
raised, the survey results delivered, and any things that individuals
and small groups might do directly for themselves (passion bounded by
responsibilty) to address these things. the idea is that they could
be directed to a new page where they could enter their contact info,
without it being connected to the survey response, and thus add
themselves to the 'invitation list' for the conversation(s) about
issues and survey results.
now, in one organization they are about to survey 100,000 employees.
if even a very small fraction of people say yes, and these folks are
scattered around the globe, it gets to be a very big conversation to
have.
certainly we can handle this, but how? we know that we could handle
as many as 2108 in one place, if we wanted to, but at what point (how
many people) would we have to shift from event mode to remote,
self-facilitated, self-convening mode? how might we set up the
deputizing of many conveners/hosts throughout an org and around the
world? could we do some things to raise the passion/responsibility
bar in the sign-up process? could we lower the activation hurdle?
how much would need to happen to make good on this invitation, how
much of a conversation do you suppose we can and should be able to
offer? is this a good job for open space?
i'm just beginning to wrap my brain around this and would be glad for
any thoughts from you. initial contacts on this are in europe, just
in case that makes any difference to how we think about this. i'm
hoping to raise this possibility in conversations later this month and
can report back on progress then.
many thanks, michael
