Assistance from the phenomenal world

I love the wind and it is my teacher over and over. While working in a
third world country the wind assisted in learning for me and for the groups
over and over.

I was contracted to do personal mastery work for a group of senior team
members who are facing restructuring and losing many of their jobs. I chose
to provide space for real conversation. In fact I wanted to use Open Space
Technology and the team who hired me wanted more specific training and
facilitation methods. In one of the groups a man at the back stood up at
about 10:30 and said -- we have read of your work and you background and you
can help us in a way no other can to make sense of all this. The group all
agreed. So, I asked everyone to move their chairs to the back of the room
into a circle and we used Open Space to tap into what wanted to be
articulated to move on and what wanted to emerge.

As the group was generating topics, I could feel a little bit of "oh, oh"
I'm off what the client contracted me for. Six topics had been posted. The
next moment a gust of wind came up and someone had placed a cup of water on
the desk where I had notes and handouts -- yup the wind danced with the
water all over the sheets! It was perfect timing. A participant and I
moved to the front to clean it up -- as "my twinge of doubt was otherwise
engaged" -- in the next few minutes it took me to clean up -- the group had
generated 17 topics! Ahhh thank you wind! After two hours of Open Space
discussions, the group was inspired to move forward with the material! And,
of course, the topics generated and discussions tied into everything
perfectly, making the rest of the day as interactive as I had dreamed of.

in smooth sailing,

Judi
