Success

"Some people will do anything
to maintain control and avoid success."

The idea of success has been tossed around a bit recently, with some
rather opposing views being expressed.

I feel that the real question here is: "How does one define success?"

If success is simply accomplishing something, then yes the military,
etc. could be viewed as successful acting as closed systems.

If, however, the measure of success also includes how something is
accomplished or at what cost, that is a whole different discussion.

For example: when one man can effect the deaths of hundreds, thousands
or more people on a point of principal, is that success? Could it be
that finding a way to create peace under the same circumstances would be
success? Is finding peaceful solutions a likely outcome of closed
systems or does it require opening space?

If maintaining control means avoiding success (and i personally concur,
Harrison) then what is the motivation for people maintaining that
control? If there another kind/aspect of success in play?

Curiously,

duff
