guiding light

Mary - there is only one way to gain experience. Do it! And don't worry. It
(OS) always works - provided the essential initial conditions are present
and the procedure followed. The conditions are: a) real "business" issue
(something that people care about) b) Lots of diversity (in terms of people,
positions, and possibilities) c) Plenty of complexity (in terms of the ways
all that could fit together) d) Some good, juicy conflict, or potential
conflict. e) A decision time of yesterday (genuine urgency). And the
procedure you know - Sit in a circle, create a bulletin board, open a market
place, and get out of the way.

Reading the book and attending a training program are both helpful - but at
the end of the day, anybody with a good head and a good heart can "do it."
And the secret is - if you allow the space to open, everything else just
happens. It is not all about you, your skills and finesse. It is all about
the people.

Go for it!

Hello everyone,

I have only recently signed on to this listserv after visiting several OS
web sites. What I have found on these sites and in these "conversations"
have greatly expanded my learning and eagerness to join in the adventure. I
am touched by your immense generosity and openness in sharing your
resources, experiences and learning in community.I am grateful for your
contributions.

I have a request. I and one of my coaching partners are putting together an
OS experience in Aug for a local health department. We will be facilitating
this event as novices. We have both participated in one OS event in the
past, have read "A User's Guide", and signed up on the listserv. Our
coaching training (model) is based on AI and living systems theory. I also
incorporate NVC into my practice. We both would love to have more
experience in open space before we facilitate and /or would like some
facilitator training. Do you have any suggestions how we could gain more
experience?? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

Best to all,

Mary
