Opening Space for the Practice of Peace

Invitation to

Opening Space for the Practice of Peace
with Harrison Owen & Judith Richardson

at the Shambhala Institute's Fifth Annual
Authentic Leadership Summer Program
June 24-July 1, 2005
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

In a world splintered by deep and destructive divisions, the search for
wholeness, harmony, and health has never been more acute. However,
experience has proven that genuine peace will never be attained through the
elimination of chaos, confusion, and conflict.

Twenty years' experience with Open Space Technology tells us that, given the
right conditions, peace will arrive all by itself. We have seen groups of
all sorts and sizes (from 10 to 2,000 people) deal with hugely complex and
conflicted issues productively in an environment of respect, hope, trust-and
even a degree of intimacy and affection-among prior sworn enemies.

In this module you will experience and learn to apply the powers of
self-organization in our search for peace. Each session will begin with a
brief presentation by Harrison Owen. This module is for anyone wanting to
release the creative, productive, and healing power of self-organization in
their organization or community.

Harrison Owen is originator of Open Space Technology, which has been used in
107 countries and with thousands of groups to release the power of
self-organization in communities and organizations. He is the author of
Spirit: Transformation and Development in Organizations, Leadership Is,
Riding the Tiger, Open Space Technology: A Users Guide, The Millennium
Organization, Tales From Open Space (editor), Expanding Our Now: The Story
of Open Space Technology, The Spirit of Leadership, The Power of Spirit: How
Organizations Transform, and The Practice of Peace. See also

Judith Richardson is an international consultant and corporate coach who
leads workshops in leadership, conflict resolution, intercultural
communication, emergent human systems, shared leadership, and personal and
organizational transformation. She co-founded three partnership-based
businesses paralleling careers in education, law, mediation and restorative
justice, and management, with accompanying geographic shifts from Toronto to
South America to the United States to Nova Scotia, and now globally through
two virtual companies. See also http://www.ponoconsultants.com.

This module is one track within a week-long "Authentic Leadership" program
which attracts 250 leaders from across sectors and continents to Halifax
each June. Other 2005 faculty include Margaret Wheatley, Michelle LeBaron,
Adam Kahane, Brian Bacon, Toke Moeller, Art Kleiner, and Julio Olalla. To
