Hi all

This message below relates to a UN Declaration on Community Engagement
to be ratified at the upcoming United Nations International Conference
on
Engaging Communities. I think it may be of interest to many of you.
I'll be attending this conference - in many ways the complete
antithesis of an OS conference (and sometimes it's good - maybe - to
remind ourselves of why we prefer OS :-). You might want to have your
say about the UN Declaration on Community Engagement.

***********************************************

You may receive this e-mail more than once? Please don't be annoyed but
instead see it as a sign of how well networked and connected you are!
We are trying to get this information out to as many people as possible
and it is being sent out to many professional and other network e-mail
lists.

You may be aware that the inaugral United Nations International
Conference on Engaging Communities will be held on 14 - 17 August 2005
in Brisbane, Australia (http://www.engagingcommunities2005.org/). There
are plans to develop a UN Declaration on Community Engagement at
the conference. To assist this development we are conducting a brief
engagement process prior to, and at, the conference itself. As part of
our diverse 'community' of practitioners, academics, policy advisors,
governments and citizens, we would love to hear your thoughts on a UN
Declaration or Charter for Community Engagement.

We have a very brief questionnaire (three questions) that you could fill
out over the internet by clicking on the following link.
http://www.darzinsurveys.com/ds/index.asp?CX=ICEC&SX=IAP2 .

If you will be attending the conference, you will have already received
notification of this questionnaire.
Please follow the instructions in that e-mail using the e-mail address
you used in your registration form and the password supplied to you in
the
e-mail.

If you will not be attending the conference, please follow the link
above, then click on the "register" button where
you will be asked to provide an e-mail address. A password will
instantly be sent to that e-mail address and you will then be able to
complete the questionnaire. This should only take a few minutes.

We would like to hear from as many people as possible, so we encourage
you to send a copy of this e-mail to your own networks. If you do plan
on
sending it to others, could you please send a brief e-mail to Allison
Hendricks at allison at darzin.com with the following information:

* Name of group or network (if appropriate) ? for example IAP2
Canada
* Number of people you are sending it to
* Country of recepients (if the people you are sending it to are
mostly in
one country, then just nominate that one. If there are big groupings
then just nominate a rough percentage such as 50% Australia, 50% New
Zealand).

This information will help us with the reporting on the feedback and
give us an idea of the 'reach' of this questionnaire.

We would appreciate it if you could respond to this questionnaire
before Wednesday 10 August. The questoinnaire will still be available
during the conference for a
further week and you can visit this link to see if additional questions
have been posted. A draft version of the Declaration will be posted on
the conference website on Friday 12 August, so please check the site if
you
wish to review the draft document prior to the conference. If you will
be attending the conference, we encourage you to participate in the
engagement activities that will be held there.

Thank you for your time and assistance.
