Metaphors for the magic?

Doug, not sure if this helps:

>From an email sent to a coworker just now:

I'm doing a strategy session this afternoon for a group who have developed
something magical but don't know how to quantify or replicate it - a very
prescient project manager is paying my time to "play" with his team for a
couple hours to see if we can tease out some strands of the magic. It's a
bit like astrophotography - there's nothing there visible to the eye, but if
you leave the camera lens open for a couple hours, sometimes really neat
stuff pops out.

Doug--

I also cringe a bit when people ask if OS is a networking event. I'm likely
to say something like, "It's better than a usual networking event, because
people connect around something they both care about. I find I am much more
likely to keep in touch with someone I met in Open Space."

No good metaphors this morning, but I like the idea of finding ways to
better communicate the essence of OST.

Joelle
