So a bad penny shows up. Haven't seen you for a bit, chris. Where you been
hiding??? As to your question . . .

It is safe to say that The Carlton Bar is an extension -- but not the
origin. Those (in)famous martinis (actually pure gin, forget the
vermouth)were imbibed, lo these many years ago, on my terrace in Washington
as part of a Spring time ritual I have observed for many years -- The First
(outdoor) Martinis of Spring. A celebration of a new season coming and a
Winter gone. Wonderful things can happen. Needless to say, this celebration
is not for everybody, and those who may not know me very well must
understand that all of this is said with tongue in cheek and a large smile.
A joke if you will, but a true one. The first time I ever told this story,
it came out in response to questions about the origins of Open Space. I
guess they thought I was going to cite endless years of research and a deep
reading of the appropriate literature. I know the devil made me do it, but I
have to admit to a total enjoyment of the look of shock that passed over my
questioner's face. I suppose I haven't improved too much over the years.

I knew there had to be a story!

I've been here all fall, dilligently posting away, completely
oblivious to the fact that none of my posts have gone through to the
list for whatever reason.  I did some monkey werenching of my
preferences and now all seems well.  I've actually enjoyed this little
period of being totally present yet completly invisible ;-)

In the spirit of opening space around some alcohol, Michael Pannwitz,
his wife Sabine and Denyette DePierro (who is on this list) and I all
met in a little Mexican restaurant last week in Orange County
California for supper and beer and a good time was had by all.  A mini
OSonOS, with two Germans, an American and a Canadian.  And as there
was Dos Equis flowing, to my mind it qualified as an official
practictioner gathering.

Anyway, my settings seem fixed, so the bad penny returns to the pocket.
