Thomas

We facilitated three events with 158 parents and teachers in Glasgow,
Aberdeen and Edinburgh for the Scottish Government's Department of
Education during 2003. The theme was "how can parents and teachers
work together to help children learn best?" There were 41 break out
sessions and 126 proposed actions with 23 priorities.

Official reports on these events and five additional events with 406
more people (272 pupils from primary and secondary schools, 41
student teachers and 93 teachers) can be found on the OSLIST's
dedicated wiki wiki site on education as follows:
http://www.openspaceworld.org/network/wiki.cgi?OpenSpaceinEducation

The point to be made here is that almost all the priorities did NOT
involve new resources, but rather focused on doing things differently
to produce better outcomes.

Many pubic sector managers are paranoid that the public will demand
more money and, therefore, avoid involving them as stakeholders.
However, our experience indicates that the public already knows that
resources are limited but they still have clear and positive ideas
how resources might be better used.

Cheers
