another bit...

law of two feet... learning and contributing is taking in and giving
out... in this way, it's same basic practice as buddhist practice of
tonglen, often translated as "taking in and sending out" ...specifically
taking in the suffering of others and sending out happiness (in a word),
sometimes described as breathing in tar, soot, and sludge and breathing
out white light, for those visually inclined.  anyway, they both seem to
be complete practices... so maybe ost is halfway tech only because it
still has these extra things built in... beyond the law... which seems
to make it still a tech-and-a-half, rather than half-way.  the tibetan
book of living and dying has a good bit about tonglen, if you're
interested.  also recently blogged at
